Having been a part of our Mentorship Scheme for 2+ years, Brian is a fantastic mentor in AYP.

To give you an idea of what Brian is like as a mentor, we had a short interview to find out more...

What is your line of work?

I am a director at Creegan Talent, with several years of experience in the recruitment industry.

Why did you choose to become a mentor with AYP?

I have previously undertaken a formal mentoring diploma as I believed it is something valuable for working with the next generation of workers and leaders to support them in their career development.

I have worked and lived in Aberdeen for 25 years and wanted to see the city and the people of Aberdeen succeed to make the area one that offers support to its business people.

What area of development have you & your mentee been working towards?

We have worked on three key areas:

  • Confidence/self-belief

  • Target setting

  • Planning

How do you feel you have benefited from being a mentor?

I think as a mentor you also get the opportunity to learn and understand new areas and different people. My mentee has come up with some fantastic ideas and these are things that would also benefit me in my business and personal life.

What advice would you give to people looking to become a mentor?

To understand how to mentor as opposed to being a coach. It is wonderful to see a young person flourish in their career and to know that you played a small part in this development.
